Mater Ecclesiae

Clerical support and direction

Our Congregation of Mater Ecclesiae - formerly the Congregation of Mary, Mother of the Church – was founded in 1982 by Sr Catherine Mulligan SMR (Society of Marie Reparatrice) with the purpose of enabling mature women to enter religious life.

Sister Mary Thomas is the present Superior of a community of Sisters who reside at Mater Ecclesiae Convent, situated in a beautiful rural location near Monks Kirby in Warwickshire, between Rugby and Coventry. The life is semi-contemplative and centred on the Eucharist. Mass is celebrated in our chapel on four mornings a week and at nearby parishes on the remaining days. Local parishioners are invited to join the Sisters for Mass and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.

Our Sisters visit local care homes and take communion to residents, they participate in parish activities, provide hospitality to parish and ecumenical groups, and quiet days for individuals or small groups who are seeking time with the Lord or just time out from busy lives. Anyone interested in quiet days or in experiencing our way of life for a few days is most welcome to contact us.

Through our life of prayer and charitable activities we reach out to those in need and seek to make Christ's presence a reality here on earth.

Mater Ecclesiae Convent is a registered charity - No. 1120575
